Lakewood
Baptist Mission
Lakewood Baptist Mission began as a dream in
the heart of Brother Charles George. When Brother George moved to
Lakewood Park in Beech Grove Tennessee, there was no Southern Baptist
witness in the area. Having surrendered to the ministry 24 years earlier
and having served as pastor in several churches, Bro. George now felt
the Lord leading him to establish a church near Lakewood Park.

Bro. George began the work by holding prayer meetings in his home and
interest grew, services moved to a converted storage building. The next step was
to find a church willing to sponsor a mission. Along with Salem Associational
Missionary Thurman Seber, Bro. George approached the missions committee of
Woodbury First Baptist, who recommended to the church that they sponsor a
mission, calling Bro. George as pastor. Three acres of land were then purchased
just outside Lakewood Park on Ferrell's Loop Road and a small office trailer was
moved onto the property. The first service in the new Lakewood Baptist mission
was held July 18, 1993.
